Will Katie Holmes Switch Up Her Style Now That She’s Splitting From Tom Cruise?

It may seem like a silly question, but have you ever gone back and looked at Katie’s style over the years?  She transformed from a fresh-faced twentysomething with questionable style to a glamorous A-lister, and even though she hit a bit of a bump when she was pregnant with daughter Suri, she bounced back and wowed on the red carpet (and on the street) within a matter of months.  Over the last two years it seems like Katie has been favoring comfy and cute ensembles over couture, and while she still knows how to glam it up for a special appearance, she’s been more on par with Jennifer Garner than Jennifer Lopez when it comes to the oomph factor of her outfits.

A few weeks ago there was a blind item about a superstar couple on the verge of a split, and bloggers everywhere were convinced that it was about Tom and Katie.  Seeing as she’s been shopping at the Gap and stepping out sans makeup more than ever lately, we’re wondering what she’s going to do now that she apparently has the freedom to dress however she wants…

This actress – who worked much more several years ago than she does now – has found the perfect way to annoy her controlling husband. He always insisted that she not step foot out of the house unless she was looking her best (full hair, makeup, clothes) because she was a “reflection of his image”.

But now that they have quietly separated, she consistently walks out of the house in casual clothes and messy hair and no makeup (even when her destination isn’t the gym). Of course, the paparazzi are there, just waiting to snap her photo. Her publicist called and said, “Do you realize how much you’re pissing him off when you do that?” She replied, “Absolutely!” and giggled. Sounds like it’s just her little way of reclaiming her life.

Katie and Tom made their first public appearance in April 2005, and shortly after that she was snapped shopping at Barneys, Neiman Marcus and Maxfield stocking up on sophisticated and expensive attire.  There were rumors that Tom gave her a monthly shopping budget, and within a matter of months she became a fashion icon.  When she cut ten inches off of her brunette locks and showed off a Posh Spice-inspired bob in June 2007 people took note, and she even made sure daughter Suri was sporting the finest fashions as well!

However, in late 2008 it almost seemed like Katie was getting sick of the dresses and stilettos, and jeans and blazers became her uniform.  She still looked great, but when we noticed her stepping out without makeup almost every single day beginning last November, we began to wonder if something was up.  Then that blind item came along in May and Katie filed for divorce last Friday, so it definitely seems to add up.  But the real question is, what will Katie do now that she’s no longer required to be camera ready at all times?  Tom may not be funding her fashion purchases anymore, but she’s definitely going to get a hefty amount of alimony each month!
